The building was originally designed in 1996 as an open plan Garden Centre featuring long span steel portal frames and lightweight cladding system. Since its original construction, there had been a number of extensions and modifications
Over the past year, EQ Struc worked extensively with the client and project architect and overcame numerous challenges to convert the former garden centre into a state of the art medical facility. The project involves the creation of a new courtyard area, new façade and new glazed openings and new internal structure and strengthening of the existing structure to facility the new building services.
Key services provided:
Conceptual design and optioneering during the project planning stages to help client and architect identify constructability issues and cost implications of the proposed change of use and modifications to the existing building
Detailed design of the strengthening (both Seismic and Gravity) of the primary and secondary structural elements as part of the development
Building consent and project coordination, on-site technical support and construction observation
